Ukraine, Romania sign security agreement, incl supply of Patriot
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Klaus Johannis signed an agreement in Washington on security cooperation between the states, according to which Romania will transfer the Patriot system to Ukraine and will facilitate the fastest transit of all necessary equipment on its territory.
"Romania will help Ukraine in the clearance of the Black Sea and will provide support through EU and NATO instruments. Official Bucharest, together with its partners, will also assist the F-16 training center for training Ukrainian pilots, thus contributing to the coalition of air force capabilities. Romania will support the defense industry of our country," according to the website of the head of the Ukrainian state.
A special feature of the agreement is the provisions on strengthening security in the Black Sea region. Separate blocks relate to intelligence, counterintelligence, cybersecurity, information security, humanitarian demining, sanctions, and the restoration of Ukraine. There is also a mechanism for a 24-hour emergency response in case of repeated aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine or significant escalation.
Ukraine and Romania have signed a security agreement to implement the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine dated July 12, 2023. In total, Ukraine has already signed 23 bilateral security agreements: with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the USA, the EU, Estonia. Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg and Romania.
