Ukrainian book “Workshop of Lies” about the impact of Russian disinformation on the world was presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair
The Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse), the largest literary event in the world, the book “Workshop of Lies” was presented by Yakaboo Publishing, an in-depth study of Russian disinformation and its impact on people, public opinion and politics around the world.
The authors of the “Workshop of Lies” are Viktor Berezenko and Dmytro Tsarenko, political strategists and media consultants with 15 years of experience. The book, written in a popular science style, is a literary debut, a summary of the authors' experience in political strategizing, media wars, and countering Kremlin disinformation.
“Disinformation influences public opinion, and public opinion influences the decisions of politicians. In the context of Western partners’ support for Ukraine, this has an existential significance. The task that Dmytro and I set ourselves when writing the book is to make sure that any person in the West, after reading the “Workshop”, will have their critical thinking developed so that it will be impossible to get them hooked on the Kremlin's lying hook,” commented Viktor Berezenko.
The authors emphasize that the main audience of the “Workshop of Lies” is western, so translations into other languages will soon be available on major platforms around the world.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have been actively working with Ukraine’s western partners to counter Kremlin disinformation in various territories. And this problem is much more serious than just commercials or stupid slogans. The Kremlin’s disinformation is not funny, it is insidious, unfortunately, effective, and it kills. The more we communicated with people in the West, the more we realized the need for such work, representation of Ukraine’s interests in the world and the struggle for the information space,” said Dmytro Tsarenko.
The “Workshop of Lies” by Yakaboo Publishing offers a thorough study of the main tools used by Russia in its information attacks. The authors describe how Russian media, social media and cultural diplomacy have become a means of manipulating minds on all continents of the world. The publication aims to teach readers how to recognize false information and think critically in the context of information wars.
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest book event, bringing together tens of thousands of publishers, authors and literary agents. This year, Ukraine was represented by boothswith more than three hundred books from 31 publishers and the focus theme “Reclaiming the voice”. This emphasis highlights not only Ukraine’s struggle for its cultural identity, but also its desire to demonstrate Ukraine's intellectual and literary potential to the world.
