A ceremonial diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Slovenia with the participation of representatives of the Ukrainian government, diplomatic corps, public and business operating in Ukraine was held in Kyiv.

In her address, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovenia to Ukraine Mateja Prevolšek emphasized the commonality of historical challenges that Slovenia and Ukraine have gone through in their struggle for independence, democracy and national identity. According to her, Slovenia firmly stands in support of Ukraine's European course and its struggle for freedom.

"I had and still have the opportunity to see for myself the courage of the Ukrainian people, their desire for a better future in their own country, visiting many Ukrainian regions, cities and villages to support projects within the framework of Slovenian cooperation in the field of development and humanitarian aid," the diplomat noted.

Slovenia supports a number of initiatives in Ukraine, including in the field of veteran rehabilitation, training psychologists and teachers to work with traumatized children, as well as cooperation between Ukrainian and Slovenian municipalities. The ambassador stressed the importance of preserving linguistic identity, both for Slovenians and Ukrainians, and said that she is studying Ukrainian.

"It was a very good decision, because I will not only learn the melodiousness of your language, but also be able to communicate with people and better understand their feelings," said Prevolšek.
