Ambassador Korniychuk: Ukrainians and Jews are united by a common experience of the struggle for survival, dignity and freedom

The peoples of Ukraine and Israel are united by a common experience of the struggle for the survival of their nation, said the Ambassador of Ukraine to the State of Israel Yevhen Korniychuk during the opening of the exhibition "The Ukrainian-Jewish Century" in Jerusalem.

"In his speech, Korniychuk emphasized the exceptional importance of documenting life during the war. After all, it is thanks to photographs, interviews and stories that we preserve the truth about the war for future generations. He emphasized that such testimonies are not only a tribute to the dead, but also a powerful tool for countering Russian disinformation. The Ambassador also noted that Ukrainians and Jews are united by a common experience of the struggle for survival, dignity and freedom, and this brings our peoples closer together," the Embassy's Facebook page reports.

The opening of the exhibition, timed to coincide with the Independence Day of Ukraine. The exhibition covers a century of Ukrainian-Jewish history (1920s–2025), with a special focus on Jewish life in Ukraine during the ongoing Russian aggression. The first part of the exhibition is based on over 260 interviews conducted in seven Ukrainian cities in 2001–2007. It includes thematic sections: Victims of Babyn Yar, In Evacuation, Holodomor, "Those I Lost," etc. The second part is photographs by Edward Serotta (2022–2026) taken in the Jewish communities of Lviv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Odessa, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kharkiv, as well as works (of bright memory) by Maksym Levin and Taras Kovalchuk.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel, the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, and Centropa Vienna.
