Registration of individual entrepreneurs in agro sector in H2 2025 up by 52%, agro companies remains at last year's level - study
In Ukraine, in April-June 2025, the registration of new individual entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector increased by 52% and reached 1,500 registrations against 934 for the same period last year, while the registration of agricultural companies remained at last year's level - 490 against 496 registrations, according to the results of a study conducted by the YouControl.Market service.
According to the published data, the agricultural sector entered the second half of 2025 with an increase in the number of companies and signs of stabilization in individual entrepreneurship. Kyiv leads in the number of registered agricultural companies (11,900, 14.3% of the total), and among individual entrepreneurs - Vinnytsia region (9,500, 8.2%).
Analysts recalled that 2021 was unfavorable for the development of agriculture. During the first year of the full-scale war, the number of new agricultural companies almost halved (to 1,700), and the registration of individual entrepreneurs fell by 12% (to 3,800). In 2023, the agricultural sector began to adapt to new conditions: 2,000 companies and 4,300 individual entrepreneurs were registered, the volume of business openings almost returned to pre-war levels.
"2024 brought even more interesting changes. The total number of newly created agricultural companies practically did not change compared to the previous year (1,900 in 2024 versus 2,000 in 2023). In contrast, there was a real boom among individual entrepreneurs: 5,900 individual entrepreneurs were registered during the year, which is 36% more than in 2023, and even exceeds the pre-war indicator of 2021," the experts noted.
This year, 494 new companies were created in January-March. The second quarter brought 490 new companies - almost the same as a year ago (496), that is, the number of registrations stabilized at the level of 500 companies quarterly, the report said.
Experts drew attention to the fact that the number of company closures in April-June increased by 45% compared to the first quarter of this year and by 58% in annual terms. Despite such dynamics, this is a small percentage of the total number of operating companies, that is, about dozens of firms per quarter, YouControl.Market explains.
The situation with individual entrepreneurs turned out to be much more volatile. In the first quarter of 2025, 1,000 new individual entrepreneurs were registered in the agricultural sector (+40% compared to the figure a year ago), in the second – 1,400 (+52%). As for closures, in the first quarter of 2025 there were 1,900, and in the second the trend reversed with an indicator of 901 (-52.6% compared to the first quarter and 18% lower than a year ago).
As of the end of the second quarter of 2025, 82,900 agricultural companies were registered in Ukraine. The undisputed leader is the city of Kyiv: 11,900 agricultural companies were registered in the capital (14.3% of the total number). The second place is taken by Mykolaiv region – 6,800 companies, the third - Odesa (5,900). The lowest indicators are in Chernivtsi (974) and Zakarpattia (942) regions.
