Ukrainian defenders sink enemy submarine Rostov-na-Donu in Sevastopol
The Ukrainian defense forces successfully hit Russia's Black Sea Navy submarine Rostov-na-Donu in the port of temporarily occupied Sevastopol, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has said.
"As a result of the strike, the submarine sank on the spot," it said on the Telegram channel on Saturday.
The submarine B-237 Rostov-na-Donu [according to NATO classification, Kilo Class] is one of four Kilo Class submarines capable of using Kalibr missiles. Rostov-na-Donu was commissioned on December 26, 2014.
On September 13, 2023, as a result of a Ukrainian missile attack, the vessel sustained significant damage. Subsequently, it was repaired and tested in the waters of the Sevastopol harbor. The cost of the submarine is estimated at $300 million.
"The destruction of the Rostov-na-Donu submarine once again proves that there is no safe place for the Russian Navy in the Ukrainian territorial waters of the Black Sea," the General Staff said.
In addition, it was confirmed that on Friday, August 2, Ukrainian missile forces, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy units, significantly damaged four launchers of the Triumf air defense system.
