The Ukrainian Red Cross along with its partners from the international Red Cross movement, with the assistance of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, have started work to restore the building of the Children's Cardiology Center in Kyiv, which was damaged during a massive Russian missile attack on July 8, 2024.

"Restoration of medical facilities in Ukraine, damaged because of the war, is a priority for our organization. Especially when it comes to children's medical facilities. Damage to the Children's Cardiology Center made it impossible to provide assistance to thousands of young patients, so the Ukrainian Red Cross is doing everything [...] to ensure that the center is restored as soon as possible," Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross Maksym Dotsenko is quoted as saying by the organization on Facebook.

Head of the Children's Cardiology Center Illia Yemets said his team hopes for a quick restoration of the building.

"It is important to note that we aim to restore heart surgeries on newborns and infants in the renovated building before the summer of 2025. This is our priority, because every day is important for those who need our help," he said.

Health Minister of Ukraine Viktor Liashko said that the Children's Cardiology Center is one of the leading medical institutions in Ukraine, where unique operations are performed.

"Rebuilding the hospital is not only about restoring the building, but also about restoring hope for many families whose children need urgent treatment," the minister said.

It is planned to install new partition structures in the hospital premises, restore all windows and doors, elements of the facade, electricity, water supply and drainage systems, repair walls and interior decoration in the hospital premises, replace damaged sections of floors and roofing, and equip new shower rooms. The total cost of the project is UAH 42 million.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Red Cross has been helping to restore medical facilities. During this time, 10,000 square meters of medical and rehabilitation facilities have been repaired. The rehabilitation center Unbroken in Lviv and the Ukrainian Center of Complex Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities in Liutizh, Kyiv region, were restored. In addition, solar panels were installed at the city hospital in Vyshneve, Kyiv region. This hospital serves more than 120,000 people, including thousands of internally displaced persons, and thanks to the new equipment will be able to operate even during emergency power cuts.
