URCS mobile medical teams have provided over 1.2 mln medical services since start of war

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the mobile medical teams of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) have provided over 1.2 million medical services to the population.

"Currently, 101 mobile medical teams (MMTs) of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society operate daily across 23 regions of Ukraine. Since the onset of the full-scale war, they have delivered over 1.2 million medical services, including consultations, examinations, and referrals," the URCS reported on Facebook on Wednesday.

Mobile medical teams consist of professionals, including family doctors, nurses, and drivers, who travel to communities where access to medical services is limited or nonexistent. Their goal is to ensure the availability of primary healthcare services, such as measuring blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and oxygen saturation. When necessary, they provide urgently needed over-the-counter medications or refer patients to specialists.

"Mobile medical teams are not a regular medical service. Their mission is to support the state in providing healthcare services to populations affected by the war," said URCS Director General Maksym Dotsenko.

Since February 2022, MMTs have been actively working in all regions, especially in areas with a high number of internally displaced persons.

In the summer of 2023, MMTs participated in the response to the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kherson region, immediately deploying to flooded areas to provide medical and psychological assistance to those affected.

Additionally, a permanent mobile medical team was established in Kherson region in July 2024. In June 2024, a multidisciplinary team focusing on rehabilitation and psychosocial support for children with developmental disabilities began operations in Odesa region.

The schedules and routes of mobile medical teams are planned in collaboration with chief physicians of primary healthcare centers, taking community needs into account. Local clinics and paramedic stations are informed in advance about visits.
