European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe is developing “quite precise plans” for the deployment of multinational troops in Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees. The statement was made in an interview with the Financial Times (FT) published on Sunday.

According to her, this contingent will receive support from the United States.

" President Trump reassured us that there will be [an] American presence as part of the backstop, " she said. " That was very clear and repeatedly affirmed."

The deployment of the contingent, according to the report, involves the potential participation of tens of thousands of European-led troops, with US support, including command and control systems, as well as intelligence and surveillance assets. The FT adds that this agreement was reached during a conversation between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders last month.

Also, according to information received by the FT from "three diplomats familiar with the plans", European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and EC President Ursula von der Leyen, are expected to gather in Paris on September 4 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron to continue high-level discussions on Ukraine.
