Great Britain allocates GBP 10 million to Ukraine for restoration of energy structure
The United Kingdom will provide GBP 10 million to support the repair of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said in Brussels on Wednesday ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
“We have seen President Putin simply seek to escalate the war, and over the weekend we have seen continued strikes, powerful strikes that have cut off power to hundreds of thousands of people, and that is why today I am announcing an additional GBP10 million from the United Kingdom to support the repair of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, because while President Putin seeks to turn off the lights and plunge Ukraine into darkness, we will continue to work to turn the lights back on, and we will continue to express our support for the Ukrainian people, for the sovereignty of Ukraine and for a just and lasting peace that has the security of Europe and the security of NATO at its heart,” she said.
According to Cooper, NATO is the foundation of the UK's security. "And that is why I am here today as part of our partnership abroad, which makes us stronger at home. And here, together with NATO foreign ministers, we reaffirm our strong support for the people of Ukraine and the process of securing a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, as well as security for Europe and security for NATO," the UK Foreign Secretary said.
