Reality through art: Fanny Leshevalier exhibition for Kharkiv city day, supported by the Solidarity Charitable Foundation

2 min read

With the informational support of the Kharkiv City Department of Culture, the Solidarity Charitable Foundation prepared a special gift for the Kharkiv City Day celebration — a unique exhibition, “In Memoriam. Reality Through Art,” by French artist Fanny Leshevalier. The project combines iconic works of art with documentary photography of the war in Ukraine, creating contrasting narratives that reflect realities.

Speaking at the exhibition’s opening in Kyiv, the artist said:

"Since the beginning of 2022, many photographs from Ukraine have circulated in France. These images, taken at great personal risk, reveal a truth we cannot ignore. I wanted to combine these images with European art — to pause time and build a bridge between our countries, between past and present. Above all, this is a tribute to the Ukrainian people — their courage and determination to defend freedom. It is also a declaration of my admiration for the resilience of the Ukrainian people. You do not give up. You create anew. You inspire far beyond Ukraine." — Fanny Leshevalier.

📅 When: August 23 – September 9, 2025

📍 Where: Art Shelter at the DRUK Cultural and Community Center (Honcharivskyi Blvd, 10/2)

🕐 Exhibition Hours: Thu–Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat–Sun 12:00–19:00

"Solidarity sends warm greetings to the people of Kharkiv on their special day and sincerely thanks every resident for their resilience, courage, and unity! We have already supported the city during challenging times: partially renovating the railway station to make it more comfortable and accessible for everyone, and providing humanitarian aid to the region, including heating equipment.

Now, we support the city through art. Culture has the power to bring people together, and our mission is to unite everyone in the effort to rebuild Ukraine. After completing a series of exhibitions across the country, Fanny Leshevalier’s works will be featured in a charity auction, with the proceeds directed toward the creation of a rehabilitation center," emphasized Mathieu-Marie Arden, Head of the Solidarity Charitable Foundation.
