URCS volunteers continue working in locations affected by Russian attack on Odesa
Seven volunteer crews of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) Rapid Response Unit were working at night at locations affected by the Russian air attack on Odesa.
“Yesterday evening, Russia launched a massive attack on Odesa … Seven volunteer crews from the Odesa regional emergency response team of the Ukrainian Red Cross worked alongside the city's rescue services at six sites of the attack …,” URCS said on Facebook Friday.
The volunteers provided first aid and psychological first aid to the victims. The Ukrainian Red Cross also set up aid stations where people could charge their devices, drink hot tea, and receive other assistance.
Currently, the Ukrainian Red Cross team continues to work on the ground. Volunteers and staff are distributing plastic sheeting and tarpaulins to residents of buildings damaged by the attack for temporary repairs.
As reported, as a result of the Russian shelling of Odesa, one person was killed, 10 were injured, an apartment building in the city center was destroyed, high-rise buildings, two schools and three kindergartens, about three dozen cars were damaged.
In addition, a branch of the heating network was damaged, which heated 220 apartment buildings (40,000 inhabitants), seven kindergartens, four schools. The boiler room also served one of the maternity hospitals in Odesa.
